I am running GML modded snitz forum (no longer supported by the GML community due to the owner/developer having real life issues) version 1.0. The problem I am having is that the forums is using a large RAM load on the servers. Typically it grabs onto RAM and does not release it but I do not have a clue on where to look in the forum code to find this flaw. If anyone could help me with some ideas on where to look and/or how to remedy this problem I would be greatly appreciative. Otherwise I'm afraid I will have to either go back to a regular load of Snitz without all of my mods (inherent to GML Portal) or actually go over to a .php based forum instead. My main concern with doing so is the loss of 1 1/2 years of database (Access) and user information. Please help! Currently my forums eat up around 600 megs of RAM on the two servers it is on after about 1 week of running. After a fresh boot of the server it automatically grabs 58 megs of RAM and does not let go of it (on one server). I'm at wits end on this problem! |

Quite likely you have some mod grabbing memory and not releasing it. It may be very difficult to find the cause for it. You could try disabling as many mods as you can from the control panel and see if it helps. If it does, then activate the mods, one by one, to find what which is causing that situation. |

If you can get hold of your IIS logs, run them through some stats programs, it may give you some idea of where to start looking, it may also be worth switching from access to sql, this will also help to reduce memory consumption. 600Mb is a huge amount of ram, what sort of traffic does your site get, I host some very busy sites and none of them come anywhere near using that much memory, that's more than most of my shared servers running 20+ sites |
