Try to see if your host has documentation on it if you cannot reach them. It should contain all the information you need e.g. which mail server address, email component to use, whether authentication is needed, etc.

The i.p. address of where you use your webmail may not be the same i.p. address as the mail server.

Which email component is being used? (you can find that out in Email Server Config - its the first dropdown box) Is it the same one as you have specified in the admin area?

Thanks. I can't find any documentation at my host on that. I wasn wondering what is the difference between the "admin area" you referred to and the Email Config Section? I know where the config section is because that's where I select the type of service. It's the only place I remember every seeing it.

The email config settings are in the admin area.

Do you know if your mail server requires a username and password to send an email ?
If you're on Windows 2000 CDONTS may be the component to use, if your on Windows 2003 it may be CDOSYS. You host may also have installed another component on the server which they want you to use instead.

Who is your host? I may be able to find something.

Thanks Podge.

The Host is Global DDH and their web is http://www.globalddh.com/

I know I need a user name and password to check my mail.

OK. They don't have any documentation worth talking about. You are on Windows 2000 so try selecting CDONTS and specify mail.yourdomain.com as the mail server.

Are there any other email components listed from the dropdown in the email config settings?

Ok, try adding authentication by doing this.

1. Choose CDOSYS in the email settings and click submit.

Open up inc_mail.asp in a text editor and scroll down to about line 119 where is says
case "cdosys"

change the following lines

'Set and update fields properties
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 2 'cdoSendUsingPort
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver") = strMailServer
'Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate") = cdoBasic
'Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername") = "username"
'Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword") = "password"
Flds.Update

to look like this

'Set and update fields properties
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 2 'cdoSendUsingPort
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver") = strMailServer
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate") = cdoBasic
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername") = "you@yourdomain.com"
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword") = "password"
Flds.Update

Don't forget to remove the three apostrophe's.

Save inc_mail.asp and upload it to where your forum is.
You should include your full email address as the username (3rd last line).

Test sending an email from the forum and post the result here.

Oops...
I did this.

" 'Set and update fields properties
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 2 'cdoSendUsingPort
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver") = strMailServer
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate") = cdoBasic
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername") = "Flapman-swg@swg-bos.com"
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword") = "my password"
Flds.Update "

And changed the Email settings to the CDOSYS function.

I got the same results. No Email.

I got some feedback from my host and they said I could send and receive through mail.globalddh.net so I changed that on the Email setting to use as the adress but same result.

If the email address & password are the same above as you use to send mail through their server using your email client (like Outlook Express) then it should work. It looks like you have everything setup correctly.

Ask them to check the mail server logs. They should be able to come back with a reason why it wasn't sent. They may have set their mail rules too strict and make changes.
