You heard it guys and gals! Google is celebrating it's 1 year birthday and is increasing your GMail sizes to 2 GB!!!!
http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/about_whatsnew.html
The increase is moving up incrementally. They seem to be adding a MB every few minutes until it reaches 2 GB! Check your GMail account and see how much you have.
Now I guess you're all wondering, if this an april fool's joke or not. Well, guess we will find out sooner or later! |

Don't worry. Not many people are going to use 10% of that space. So Google don't have to actually allocate that much space for everyone. But everyone will sign up with google just because of the amount of the space. Smart they are. |

Unless you get to sift through billions of zips and tars mailed over just a few days of a code competition. I may actually max out in the next two days unless I start forewarding everything with "hey ghostie late entry !!!!" in the subject line. |

I have close to 10,000 messeages saved from over the last two or so years (not including spam) and it's only taking up around 600 mb or so on my hard drive. Lots of these include zips, etc. how big are these zip files? Zipped up text is rather small, unless you are sending 10 mb videos all over, I don't see how you could be pressed for space.
Either way, they don't plan on stopping with 2 GB, it's still going up gradually. According to marcelgoertz:
quote:
2.386 bytes per min 143.160 bytes per hour 3.435.840 bytes per day (3.4 Mb a day) 1.254.081.600 bytes per year (1.2 gigabytes per year!)

As MarkJH said yes. But everyone seems to get 50 invites now so if you need one just ask! |

Or create 50 aliases for yourself
My problem is that I didn't want any compiled DLLs, EXEs and such sent. Plus I don't think Gmail allows those kinds of files to be stored, even in ZIP form. So all of the mail I got were source files and images ( the images were the big problem, since a lot of them were PNGs done in GIMP ). On average, each ZIP is about 5 - 10 Mb. Someone even sent me an ISO!!!

Yes, if somebody has an invite - can you please email me? I've been using hotmail for so long that I am reluctant to make a switch. I like googles space and search features though. Thanks. |
