Windows 2003 SP1 has been released and is available via Windows update.

I installed on my live server and all was well. I even managed to get the new firewall up and running (always scary using remote desktop). Just make sure you use the new security wizard before starting it otherwise it blocks all ports by default (and chucks you out of remote desktop)

Glad to hear you had no problems. I'm still a bit apprehensive about installing it though.

I might wait a few days before putting it on my production boxes.

I managed to lock myself out of my server once. I'm in Denver, it's in Dallas. Can't wait to try this.

At least you're in the same country! Mine are in Texas, I'm in Ireland.

I too have locked myself out on more than one occasion.

I always meant to look into installing a secondary "remote desktop" application like http://www.radmin.com
just in case something went wrong.

Yep, I do the same thing. I personally use pcAnywhere, but there is a free/open source solution if you want, it's called VNC and can be found here.

I wouldn't think any of those would work if they're blocked by the firewall.

My understanding is that if you install SP1 is that you don't have to run the security wizard and therefore not block yourself out by accident.

Thats true, I just installed and the wizard is an option I had to dig for after the fact.

I just installed it on my server with no problems, and the security wizard never came up, so I had no problems doing it through remote desktop.

I finally took the plunge earlier today. The install went fine on two servers and took a lot longer on a third server running Sql Server.
It took about an hour and a half to install and required two reboots.

I was bricking it when I couldn't get back in via remote desktop the first time after reboot but got in the second. Whew.
