Our moderators often offer support to members via emails-- due to liablity reasons there are many things we have to take "off the boards."
My problem is that since moderators can email all members regardless of whether the members wish to be contacted or not, I'm concerned that moderators are emailing members with non-essential stuff even when they wish not to be contacted- unfortunately, the moderators have no way of checking the member's wish to be emailed or not before emailing.
Does anyone know of a way to either restrict the mods from emailing members who don't wish to be contacted OR allowing them to view whether the member wishes to be contacted in their profile?
The emails are sent via the forum, but the moderators are able to send emails regardless of the members wish to receive mail or not- I think it is a great idea for moderators to be able to contact members- I just wish there was a way that the mods can see the members preference, so that if they must send an email, they know to keep it strictly "business".
Rather than making the code changes required to do this, have you tried contacting your moderators and informing them that they should not be contacting your members via e-mail unless it is "strictly business" or a member has explicitly requested that they e-mail them in one of their posts? If they persist in contacting your members willy-nilly after that, maybe you should be rethinking whether they should hae the reponsibility of moderator.
