I'm looking for a light, fast, easy to use and dynamic menu as replacement of the normal menu incorporated in inc_header.asp.

It needs to be possible to dynamically fill the menu with things like number of unread messages in the PM Inbox, active topics, direct access to categories/forums ; stuff like that.

I've tried some menu's already, but all seem a bit 'bulky' with over 20 kb of code to be included etc.

Anyone got some good tips ?

I use Quickmenu Pro for my main menu (the one down the left side, if you click my homepage link) but the .js file does weigh in at 18kb. Though, mine is a fairly large, nested menu. I would highly recommend it, particularly for browser compatibility.

Added: just checked the site and it would appear that they have a new, more streamlined version which could be flexible to your needs. Check out Infinite Menus.

Other than that you can always be nice and use a CSS menu; look for Drop down menu (duh) on www.alistapart.asp

You have asp on the brain !! - www.alistapart.asp should be www.alistapart.com

www.alistapart.com/articles/horizdropdowns/" target="_blank">http://www.alistapart.com/articles/horizdropdowns/

I have been doing work on my board v3 all day, and have been opening .asp files all day. Can you really blame me?

wooow!! that one is very nice indeed!!!
But...as it uses the normal UL and LI tags, I guess I should create seperate CSS classes for the menu...otherwise all my other LI and UL's will be styled the same way.

But, very much thanks for this tip!

MarkJH ; I've downloaded the Navstudio earlier, but that one gave me nightmares...
I know see that there's a seperate download for just the menu. Thanks!

Just slap the menu in a div with a distinct id, and modify the ul to work for it (#menudiv ul).

Personally I think that Infinite Menus looks cool but its a bit expensive.

You could also consider these - http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/
Some won't be suitable but you may find something you like.

There are demos of each of the menus's but they can be a little hard to find on each page.

I've been trying to get this menu to work : http://www.tanfa.co.uk/css/examples/menu/tutorial-h.asp
In FireFox : works as a charm.
In IE .... no go.

You do realise that the font in your demo is as tiny as an ant?
