Why does my forum run so slow? Is there a way to make it run faster?

If it's the forum in your profile link you'll also need to give us a test logon so we can logon and sample the speed for ourselves.

The frontpage of the forum seems to load ok for me though "This page was generated in 0.01 seconds."

Could it also to do with the large graphic over there in the forum. 60K jpg at 648 X 215 in size. I know it took that a while to come down when I looked at the forum.

The page was generated in 0.44 seconds, but the image wasn't there for a while.

Cheers,

David Greening

Definitely slower this time, looking at the high page timer it indicates the problem is with your hosts server. You will probably have to ask your host to look into this problem for you as it's very unlikely to be something caused by Snitz (unless you've got some MOD's on there that I didn't see).

Out of interest what sort of database are you using for your forum ?

You might want to change your settings as well so that the admin link doesn't show for all members.

Just a guess here. . .but are you using a "free" host or really low cost hosting service?

If so, that could be the problem.
Those cheapie hosts promise a lot, but its all shared highway space.
When a lot of users (of other sites) hit the road, a big slowdown occurs.
The problem is, you can't see how many users are on the road at one time. . .but the result is usually a slow forum.

I went through a couple of hosts and then tried that "Gremlin" character's "Kiwihosting" and got a BIG improvement.

If you call your host just ask them to view your forum form their side. mention that your unhappy with the speed and your users have been experiencing the slowness as well so it wouldn't appear to be an isolated incident. Becuase the page counter is high they should see the problem from their end as well (high page counter means the server is taking too long to create the page) and hopefully be able to do something to help you out.

I take it back they did not fix my forum.

They are tryiong to tell me that its my MDB file and thats why its slow. I know this is BS yet I cant exsplain to them how I know this.

Could someone exsplain to me how it works exactly and how it is there fault that the forum is so slow? If I call them confodent in what I know they wont jerk me around and they will fix the problem. I just am not asure how to exsplain it to them that it IS there fault and Know this

Some hosts do enforce size restrictions on Access databases as the bigger they get, the slower tey run - this may be what your host is on about.

I'd be very surprised if your database file is more than a few MB in size. To be honest with you at this point I'd be considering looking for another host, even some of the free hosts provide better service than this.
