Yes, I am yelling...for help.
I accidently clicked the SP2 Windows Update download and I cannot get it to stop. It keeps downloading it. I even tried turning off my computer.
Where can I go to cancel the windows update?? |

The fact that it is downloading doesn't mean it will get installed. SP2 installation needs your input, AFAIK. At least it did in the several installs I done. SO, you can just wait for the download to complete and then cancel the install. |

That's good.
Now that it has been awhile, should I go ahead and install it? I'm afraid to because as far as I'm concerned, my computer has been running perfectly since the day I bought it. |

A decision to install SP2 is always a personal one. I have installed it in 4 computers without problems. SP2 brings some security patches, besides the new firewall, which may be important, but it's your call, really.
If you choose install it, make sure to choose the option to keep a backup of your current files, in case you want to remove it later.
On a side note, I keep a rigorous backup policy on my computers, keeping update 'images' of the hard drives and a separate backup of the important files. There are some great disk imaging apps, that for as much as $50 can buy you piece of mind. With an updated image, restoring your computer to the state it was at the time of the image is a snap. One of the four computers where I installed SP2 was a bit problematic, so I created an image od the disk just before applying SP2. If something went wrong it would just be a matter of using the image app boot CD to recover to the pre-SP2 state (I use Acronis True Image to backup my disks). |

If you decide to install it, there are a few things you should do before starting the install.
- Search your computer for spyware, preferably with several different programs.
- Defragment you harddrives.
SP2 includes some checks for spyware, and if a specific few (I don't remember which ones at the moment) are found, it can cause your computer to lockup or act in ways unexpected. |

Works fine for me. I've been running it ever since the beta versions with no problems what so ever. |

Likewise! I have had absolutely no problems with Sp2. I installed it system wide at my work (nearly 100 pc's) with no problems anywhere. It's also running on my personal systems & laptops.

No problems here with SP2 either. I mainly installed it because it fixed a number of security problems with XP. But knowing microsoft, we might have to keep installing Service Packs to keep our computer secured. |

Just to throw my $00000000.02 in, I would be uncomfortable running XP on a full-time connection without SP2.
The likeliest problem area (if you install and have problems) is that the XP firewall got turned on and is blocking something that didn't use to be blocked.

as with anything from microsoft we'll keep getting fixes, and fixes for fixes til a new version (longhorn?) comes out... then we'll get fixes for that instead.
sp2 works fine for me as well... 'cept once i got a bogus fix for it that screwed my computer immensely. |

Might have to??? Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Microsoft...They must be doing something right to be on 85% of all PC's. I'm a Microsoft Network Admin...but we sure do spend a lot of time patching our systems!
