Can anyone tell me the difference between ASP and PHP?

I am thinking about using a forum software for my future websites. What's the difference between forums made in ASP and those in PHP? Speed, compatibility, server requirements?

There is no real difference between the two, they are just different ways of scripting, neither has any real benefit over the other

And it all comes down to personal prefrence as well. I code in either, but prefer ASP. Also need to consider hosting, but that is another story. Some allow ASP, some don't, but allow PHP.

Cheers,
