My wife and I will be flying to the Netherlands for a little vacation and family gathering in May. We are actually flying to Dusseldorf, Germany, and hoping to find our way to Eindhoven area in Netherlands, which I believe is about 100km(60mi) from Dusseldorf airport. Can the dutch members be able to recommend the best mode of transportation, rail or bus, from Dusseldorf airport, and websites if we need to book in advance. I've tried to google for this info, but not being too successful. Thanks....
cheers, N |

When I lived in Holland I took a train ride from the Southwest of the country all the way to Northern Germany - If you want a convenient and relatively cheap means of transportation, go by train |

Nertz, exactly what Jorrit said ; take the train for Dusseldorf-Eindhoven; it gets you there and its relatively cheap. You can also rent a car (Hertz or Budget. The Netherlands are a small country, so transportation by car is the most easy way to do it. We drive on the right side of the road (the right side ) just as the Germans and 99% of Europe.
But, what are you going to do in Eindhoven ?? The only 'interesting' thing in Eindhoven is the Evoluon... I'd take some daytrips to Utrecht or Maastricht (very much near Dusseldorf)... Mmm...if I think of this, I realize that the Netherlands are a very dull country indeed... |

Thanks all for the info.

Classic - the flights are free on accumulated air brownie points, and the choices of destination are not always convenient. It was a tossup between Amsterdam, Brussels or Dusseldorf, and it appeared Dusseldorf was closest to where we need to go. I guess I could always buy the additional ticket to Eindhoven, but we thought a little travel over land might be interesting.

Looks like train option is a winner. Now I need to figure out if there is a train station at Dusseldorf airport, and if I need to book the trip ahead.

Aww... Guess I have to wait for the British vacation before I can drive on the wrong side of the road LOL.

Now surely cuz I never been there before I would find it interesting enough for a week. And I'm sure my wife's cousins will make sure of that.
cheers all, N

The country is called Nederland, in English it's called The Netherlands, and the language we speak is Dutch. Holland is an old name for the north-east-region of the country, now two provinces Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland. Calling The Netherlands Holland is about the same blasfemy as calling the United Kingdom England.... |
