Was bein curious how those folks over at the gml were doing just to find that they were not doing anything at all. I attempted to use their ported version of the snitz forum but found it to be quite bandwidth intensive so I went back to the basics...and good thing too because this is the error you will get if you go there for support.
GML Portal is currently closed. The Administrator has chosen to close this forum with the following reason:
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am no longer able to maintain this site to the standards at which it should. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but the staffing we need no longer exists. As of today, Feb 18th, this site will remain closed until further notice. Jag

Wooow... Well, it was first known as CrashCode, and without Crash (the initiator) it started to 'die' already. Too bad, it hád potential. |

I had looked at the crash code and was really impressed with the support and user-base it appeared to have so I installed, it became apparent to me that during the last year the life over there was diminishing and I re-evaluated my position, it is too bad as Crash had some very cool stuff.

I still have my GML portal installed and love it. Have no problems with it being a "bandwith hog" and am just sad that the support is no longer there. Is it possible to get support for it in these forums? |

The GML site has been closed. I took over hosting the original "CrashSite" & kept it open for everyone as long as I could after crash could no longer spend the time on it that was needed. The issues we ran into were lack of staffing mainly, it takes alot of time & effort on the part of everyone involved. Gato was the brains behind all the code & he has become very busy with preperations for medical school. He is no longer able to assist.Cladon who was another prominent staff member had taken ill & I have been going through some major life & career changes as well. So as much as we wanted it all to stay open, it was not fair to have people using it & not being able to get the support they require. If there is someone who has an established site along with the time needed to put into this, I could pass along all the files I have & maybe you could help out those that are still interested in the GML Portal Code.I can be contacted at jag1327@comcast.net if you are interested. |

I think that nobody will refuse to help if support is needed. However, if HuwR or any other core-Snitzer says it shouldn't be in these forums, I'm very much willing to provide some space at oxle. Oxle started as CrashCode, so I think I owe the community |

The problem with supporting any forum version is that of knowing what you're talking about, when you help people with the code. Some questions can be answered without much intimate knowledge of the forum code, but others can only be dealt with if you have enough experience. I was a moderator at Crash, but I had a big problem - I had no Crash forum running, so I could only help with very specific questions (DB related ones, mainly).
I'm afraid most people here with would be faced with a similar situation - not knowing the code in detail, which diminishes the ability to help others, when they face problems. And if one offers help on a given subject, the helpees (or many of them, and understandably so), will have their expectations frustrated if they come here for help and then find there is no one knowledgeable enough with the code to give help.
This is just MHO. |
