I'm doing the Access to SQL upgrade following the instructions by ruirib. My host is CT.
When I run the DTS, I get a "Copied 5 tables. Failed to copy 26 tables. And I get DBNETLIB General Network Error messages. Also the other tables claim they couldn't connect.
I made sure that enable identity and delete table data is checked in the DTS.
Any ideas? I'm on Cable Modem.
I checked this error at CT help forum and several people have these errors as well but there is no answer to be found. CT said it's not a problem on their end.
My site is in limbo. Any recommendations? This is getting urgent.
I pinged the SQL DB four times. Three times it was successful, but the first time, it sent four packets but only received one.
I've got RoadRunner Cable Modem. Could this be causing the problem?
This is a constant problem for me. My site is in limbo. I don't know if this is a hassle or resource-heavy, but is there someone here who wouldn't mind running this for me? My Access DB is 117MB - I'm in Houston, Texas. The server is in Arizona, I believe.
I don't think this connection problem of mine is going to go away. |

The user and system ODBC connection doesn't permit me to choose a database off of my computer for that part.
By chance, could it have anything to do with the Max Buffer Size or Paging in the ODBC Connection? It's at 2048 and 5. |

You can try to copy one table a time. The issue is surely not related to the DTS settings.
Why are you using an ODBC connection? Aren't you simply using the IP address of the database server and connecting to it from EM? |

ruirib,
The OCBC connection is to the Access database. How else can I connect EM to the Access DB on my machine? |

I found where I can connect to the DB file instead, but that didn't help. I also copied a single table but that failed as well. |

Did you try to compact your Access database, using the forum feature do do that? Looks like you don't have that many options to get out of that situation. To me the issue lies with the CT DB servers, otherwise you wouldn't get several people complaining about the same type of error. If it's not on their end, whose end is it then? If you can compact and download your DB, do it. Then find an adequate host, with SQL Server, and start the upgrade process again. |

The db was recently compacted and it now resides on my computer. I shut down my forum and it has been down for a while now. I think I'm going to have to give up on this SQL upgrade for the time-being. |

Have you applied SP3 to your install of EM? In the about box of my EM is says v8.0.

Should you not be doing this;
1. Open EM and find your SQL Database on CT's servers 2. Right click the database, select "All Tasks", then "Import Data" 3. Click next 4. In the "Datasource" dropdown list select "Microsoft Access" 5. Browse to your local copy of the Access Database 6. Click Next & next again. 7. You should be able to do the rest.
The option of doing it locally is still worth a shot in my opinion. If you can get one of their admins to re-attach the database after you have converted and uploaded it you won't have any timeout errors. All the admin would have to do is copy the mdf file to their sql server, then in EM right click on "databases" in whichever group they have setup and attach it.

I might have found the problem: Norton Internet Security was hidden in the desktray (I couldn't even see it). I deleted this software a long time ago, I thought, and it was still enabled! I disabled it and it seems to be copying so far - it's finally actually copying something. |

Wow...I feel I'm in the elite MSSQL Club now. Thanks to both of you for your kind support. The forum is running smoothly. I feel so relieved. |
