Hello! I'm new to Snitz and to forums. This is the first forum that I've ever configured and I've had some success in doing so.

I've configured Snitz with SQL Server 2000 and E-Mail Component CDOSYS (IIS 5/5.1/6), the E-Mail Component being my only choice anyway. I have turned on E-mail Validation and Restrict Registration.

The problem that I'm currently experiencing is with emails to notify the user that the their account has been activated by the administrator. I'm assuming, hopefully correctly, that after the administrator activates anaccount that the user should get an email stating so.

I have confirmed that my SMTP server is working with Snitz in that the following conditions do work correctly:

A - When a user sends a message to the user of a post it gets sent successfully.
B - When a user changes their email address, a verification email is sent to the user to confirm the address change. The verification procedure appears to work correctly as well.

Can someone give me an idea as to why an activation email is not being sent? I don't get any error messages stating that there is any problem from the admin user interface.

Question 2: When a user registers for the first time, what happens if they use an incorrect email address. Does the adminstrator get notice of this somehow?

Final question (at least for the moment): Is there someway to tell Snitz to email the administrator when a user registers so that the administrator is alerted that he/she needs to activate an account?

Any help you might provide to me is most appreciated.

Thanks!
ct

Question 1. I don't think it send an email by default when you activate a member.
Try this mod - http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=97

Question2. They will appear as a pending member. You won't know unless they contact you or you try to email and get a bounce back. If they do contact you, you can edit the email address by going to the members page and clicking the edit icon on the right (pencil icon).

Unless I'm mistaken you would have to write code to email you everytime someone registered. It should be easy enough to do.

Thanks so much for you quick response.

The download that you referred me to is a little confusing in that it raised another question for me.

When a user registers with Snitz are they supposed to get an email response that they've registerd on the Snitz forum?

Thanks!

I GOT IT!

I figured out what's going on. It appears that if you set Restrict Registration in the E-Mail Server Configuration screen an email is NOT sent to the registering user. Aapparently it is up the the administrator to activate the account and when this is done, there is NO email sent to the user stating that the account has been activated. It would be nice if one was sent, but at least I'm understanding the process.

I shut off Restrict Registration and now an email is automatically sent to the user asking the user to activate the registration.

I did install the "reminder email" asp that you recommended and it works fine as well. I like this idea because it allows the administrator to easily send out reminders to users who haven't verified their registration yet.

Thanks for your help!

No, you didn't get it, at least not completely. If you have both Restrict Registration and Email Validation On, the email is only sent to the user after you approve his registration. To approve the Registration you need to Approve it using the appropriate link and not through account activation. If you activate the account, then the email will not be sent. However, if you just approve the Member, by selecting the check box and using the Approve Selected Pending Members link, the email will be sent.
