Hi.

I've got an SMTP server in my IIS (IIS 6) running on Windows Server 2003.
What do I need to do exactly, to enable email notification when your topic is replied to?

This is how my setup is:
www.securitum.com - My forum, smtp server (IIS) etc. I've got all on the same server.

I've enabled the email option, but what do I need to configure more than that?
Do I have to configure something with my IIS?
I've simply pressed the play button, not done any configuration to it except from changing from Anonymous access to Integrated Windows Authentication access and added 127.0.0.1 to the list of allowed relays.

Now, do I have to do something with my IIS to get CDOSYS to work? What is CDOSYS?

I downloaded the JMail component aswell, but I still do not know what I should do.

What do you recon I should do to make it work?

Thanks a thousands!!

What are you specifying as the email server in the email config?

The free version of Jmail doesn't support authentication but CDOSYS does should you need it.
Authentication = Supplying a username and password to the mail server. If you need to use authentication, set CDOSYS as the email component and edit inc_mail.asp to include your username and password.

I had anonymous access allowed, so it should work without editing those lines, no?

I now get this:

"Your request was not sent due to the following error: The server rejected the sender address. The server response was: 530 5.7.3 Client was not authenticated "

If you're using CDOSYS you have to edit inc_mail.asp to include your email username and password.
As I said before Jmail free doesn't support authentication.

It does. You're thinking of CDONTS its predecessor.
CDOSYS is the only free component I know of that supports authentication.
AspEmail & Jmail paid versions support it also.

In my opinion, you would be better off using a free mail server like http://www.mailenable.com or http://www.smartertools.com as you would have a lot more control.

Okay, so the problem right now is really:
How do I set a username and password in my SMTP Server (IIS6).

I got it working, using my ISP's open SMTP server, although I'd like tp use me own in case I'll move the server (The ISP smtp only works if you're on their subnet)

Hi Podge,

I took your advice and installed the mailenable email server on my W2K Advanced Server OS. I haven't been able to get the email feature to work inside of Snitz, now when I tried sending an email inside of Snitz, the mailenable activity log file has:

503 This mail server requires authentication. Please check your mail client settings 87 33

I'm using CDOSYS for Snitz, what do I need to do to get Snitz to work with the mailenable server properly so that the users on my forum can send each other emails and so that I can receive the registration requests?

Thanks - Alan

Open up inc_mail.asp, scroll down to case "cdosys" uncomment these lines and add the relevant info.

Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 2 'cdoSendUsingPort

Thanks for replying...

I'm using the MailEnable server (just installed it last night), so how do I create the "admin" account on my server and give it the appropriate password so that I can use this id/pw combo it in the inc_mail.asp script?

Open up the mailenable console.
Navigate to "Postoffices" then your domain, then mailboxes
Right click mailboxes and select "New" then Mailbox

It should be straight forward from there.

Hi Podge,

I finally had some time to mess with the e-mail server. I create an account (my_user@my_domain), I put that user name & password in the inc_mail.asp file and MailEnable's activity log file registered the activity but complains that it needs verification still, what am I doing wrong? The create user process TOLD me to use my_user@my_domain (post office) and I did that for CDOSYS yet still the SAME error.

Maybe your relaying rules are too strict.

I'll have a look to see how mine are setup and let you know.

Can you use Outlook (or another email client) to send email through the mail server using the same account?
