Hi all, my name is Matteo and I am an absolute beginner in web-site design. I need to create a discussion forum for my web-site but I have some problems: 1) I know no HTML; 2) I set up my site using Yahoo! Sitebuilder; 3) I read the manual about SNITZ forums but did not understand very much how to start; 4) I do not know MS Access. Is there anyone willing to help me just do understand where to start ?? Thanks, Matteo

Laser !! Thanks for the answer !! Unfortunately I know nothing about how to set up a site. I have a lot of questions I know nothing about. Which new site should I buy ?? Should I learn HTML ?? Which option should I use for the connection string ?? The physical, the virtual or the other ??
If you can help me indicating some resources on the web where I could learn how to set up a web-site with a discussion forum without using programs like SiteBuilder, I would be grateful. However, if you could help me to set up this site step-by-step, I can pay you a fee ( with PayPal, money transfer or something like that ) !! I am not kidding I need to set up this site fast. And I am not that dumb, I was a monster with C64 Assembly some 20 years ago .. Let me know what you think .. Matteo

first of all, find a host that supports asp (asp.NET is nice, bu not NEEDED) and some kind of DB back-end (MySQL, MSSQL and Access all work).
After doing this, post back here. |

PeeWee, found out this web hosting: http://www.hostdepartment.com/premium_hosting_500.htm The premium paalication has 1,5 GB disk space, 30GB traffic and there is written ASP net free, so it should work with ASP.net and it comes for $ 9,95 per month If you say it is good, I will order it right now. I just need to know if tomorrow, if my site grows bigger, I can painless move to a more capable web hosting, but I think there should be no problem, right ?? If you have any suggestion, just tell me !! Matteo P.S. I hope it is secure to pay with credit card on this site.

I do not know what a back-end DB is ..
There is written: " MySql User 1 User MySql Database 1 Database Default MySql Database Quota (Adjustable to suit your requirements at no cost) Free 50 MB MS SQL User 1 User MS SQL Database 1 Database Default MS SQL Database Quota (Adjustable to suit your requirements at no cost) Free 100 MB PgSql User 1 User PgSql Database 1 Database Default PgSql Database Quota (Adjustable to suit your requirements at no cost) Free 50 MB " I think this means it supports MySQL database.

If you have the yahoo web hosting professional account and you've already paid for it, I think it supports PHP and PERL and MySQL. You can try these forum software:
PHP: www.phpbb.com or www.invisionboard.com PERL: www.yabbforum.com
But if you really want to use snitz, then yes the host that you picked will support it, and I guess for $9.95 a month 1.5GB disk space and 30GB bandwidth is ok. :) LOL You seem too eager to set up your site. You can try these http://hifi-konsulenten.dk/asp/ free asp hosts, not for a professional site, but good for getting a feel of what using the forum is like. When you're ready to buy a host, the other members here might give you better reccomendations. I think some of the members here offer hosting services of their own, and they can set up your forum for you for free. |

Something else I might recommend (this is just personal opinion) is that you spend some time getting familiar with HTML. At the very least, you should know some of it before you get too much into trying to build a site. Costs can get quite high rather quickly, and if you're spending a lot of your time learning and experimenting, that's taking time away from your site actually being live. I've found http://freespace.virgin.net/sizzling.jalfrezi/iniframe.htm" target="_blank">this site to be one of the best for me as far as HTML. I have been using it for about eight years now, and I still go back whenever I'm working on something just to double check properties and such. Once you've got some basic HTML under your belt, check out w3schools for some ASP tutorials. |
