Is it possible to make a forum where you grant access based on a number of posts?
For example someone needs 100 posts for he has access to a "v.i.p." forum.
Please let me know if and how.
Greets & thanks

This guys board has a VIP section: http://www.rideawoody.com/forum/
I don't think his visitors make it there by posts though. I think he has to manually grant them access. Maybe between you and him you might be able to come up with something though if noone else has an idea of how to make in through their posts.

The short answer - YES The long answer - you would have to do some code changes so that instead of checking the Allowed Members list, it checks the post count and then does the relevant whatever to allow them access. |

Any idea in which file(s) I have to put the changes?
Ps thanks to both of you for your reply. Right now I'm dealing with it manually too, but the demand is increasing to a point where I won't be able to add them manually very long.
Also, this option was suggested for the points mod too, anybody know anybody who took care of that or got that to work?
Thanks!

Just a bit of brainstorming here, but if a check was done on post_info.asp to see if M_POSTS=99 then the member could be dynamically added to the "VIP" forum that way; shall have a think about it and try and knock something together in the morning. Is it just one particualr forum you want to give them access to when they hit 100 posts?

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Create a new field for number of posts to allow. Add a new type of security in the forum edit dropdown. Edit chkForumAccess to include the ordinal of the new security type. Edit isAllowedMember to pull the needed post number and the users posts. Edit chkDisplayForum to include the security type as either hidden or visible.
Am I missing anything? |

Yes @ Shaggy, they should be able to see the forum but not be able to enter it unless they have X ammount of posts (100 will do). Thanks!
@ -gary, are your edits done in post_info.asp? Thanks! I got a feeling that I'm close and will try to work on this in a couple of hours.
Greets & thanks,

Looks good to me, Gary
Illhill, what I was aking was is it just one forum you want to grant access to? If the answer is yes then it would probably be easiest to hardcode it in as I suggested.
If the answer is no or you envisage expanding the feature to allow access to multiple forums based on different post counts then you'd be better going with gary's solution.

Sorry shaggy I misunderstood you. I think it's best to make it in a way where I can use this feature on multiple forums, with each a different level of posts (or points, if I ever get that mod to work).
-gary, can you tell me in which file(s) I have to make your changes?

Windows has this neat little search feature that will find text in files.
They'll be in the inc_func files and the forum edit file whose name escapes me at the moment. Off the top of my head, inc_func_common and/or inc_func_secure most likely. |
