Hi, I know there are mods who allow you to see which members are reading what.
I need a more simple version. I need one which will only display a number: " 23 Reading " " 12 Reading " " 0 Reading " or " None Reading "
It has to work for every type of visitor (guest, logged in etc.)
I don't need no names, I only need that little bit of info on the forums and topics.
I have seen this on php forums, too bad I do not have examples, so I hope you understand what I mean.
I could not find this with a search, I did find more complex mods, so it should be possible.
Greets & thanks

I tried this before many moons ago to run off the active users mod and failed miserably. I'll dig it out again and give it anither bash see if I can't get it to work with all I've learned since then!
Alternatively, if you have a mod that will display who is viewing, it should be easy enough to edit that to show just the number.

I have Active Users installed on the front page. With something like 40 forums on my site, would it be resource intensive or would it all work on one database call? |

The problem that arose last time was related to the number of topics in a forum rather than the number of forums with my code only really working for forums that only had a handfult of pages worth of topics. Just had a gickload more work dumped in me lap so I'm not going to get 'round to this anytime soon. Can dig out the files I was working on and pass them on, though, if that's any use to you?

Ack. I'm not a good ASP programmer by any means but if I had the time, I'd love to have a look. Unfortunately, there are far too few hours in a day right now.
This wasn't something crucial, just would have been a nice feature which seems to be commonplace on forum software like vbulletin. |

Gah! Can't, for the life of me, lay me hands on those files! Methinks I'll have to go digging through some rather disorganised backups to find them.
As little use as it is without the files, here's a link to the original topic from nearly three years ago.

I think that was Iron Heart's Who Is Inside? Mod mentioned in the topic I linked to above.

I can't see how the number of topics would be an issue. Surely, each active user has or has not got a forumid value associated to them so couldn't those just be gathered then sorted out in a subroutine at the top of default.asp? |

That's fine if you just want to show how many users are on forum.asp, my original files will work perfect for that but if you also want to include the number of users reading topics in that forum, that's where I ran into problems before with IIS choking on the SQL statements. Hopefullly with all I've learned in the past 3 years, I should be able to clean it up, though, once I lay my hands on them.

Ah, yes sorry. I wasn't thinking straight when I posted that. I had it in my head that the URL of a topic included the forum_id as well as the topic_id. |
