Hi,
I have a huge problem with my PC. This is what I did:
1. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 2000 (no problems) 2. Installed a Firewall (Zonelabs) and went to Windowsupdate (no problems) 3. I installed the first update, which is the browser (no problems). 4. I installed Service Pack 4, re-started and:
Blue screen: inaccessible boot device
What can I do? It seems that SP4 has the problem, but I need to update the PC.
I´ve tried to find help online, but can´t find this error in connection with installing SP4. |

It is not the SP4 that gave the grief, it was the ZoneAlarm. I did something like that a while ago with Win2k and had ZA on the system then went and put a SP on it and I could not boot it up after applying the SP. I did a rebuild and put SP4 on and it was fine, I then put ZA on it, and it was fine still. I would say the ZA doesn't like the files changing, so it ZA doesn't change them when W2k needs them changed to match the changed files ZA did allow.
Do as I do and download the SP's and hotfixes (or have them on CD) so you can do it all offline before installing something like ZA. |

I'm sure you did this but just in case, check your Bios settings for the bootup devices second if you have a SCSI card installed you might be missing the appropriate drivers. I had that once too and it was due to SCSI card prob.
<edit after Davids post missed by 2mins > I think Davids answer is more appropriate It sounds logical that ZA would interfere with the SP installation. (it's always a good idea to disable a FW before installing SPs) |

Ok, As I´m not going to put an non-update PC online without a firewall, I will download SP4 to a CD and run it from there, thanks for the tip, I´ll let you know how it goes. |

Well, I installed XP with Service Pack 2, no problems.
I still feel that older PCs runs better on Windows 2000 though. |
