Good afternoon.

We have a Forum which I have just taken over to administer, and I am not even sure which version it is. It is on www.worldvoices.no/forum

I would like to upgrade to the most recent version, but I have no clue HOW to make a back up of the old version, how to install the new one, making sure I do not lose information, etc.

Also, I am not even sure if I may do it myself, as we use a private server for our web site...

Also, a few questions

1) UPDATE. Can we update our version without losing info already on the old one? If so, how? (I looked at the web site, without finding an answer)

2) ADMIN OPTIONS

Our Administrator has now given me the responsibility, and so I logged in as him. When I tried logging in again as Admin, I did not find “Admin Options”. It is no longer there, and so I am unable to edit the Forum. What do I do?

I should also be able to edit memberships, through the icons on the very right of each members. These do not appear. My fear is therefore that my Admin account no longer is the Admin account. How do I find out which one is?

3) MEMBERS LIST – ERROR

When I am logged in as a starting member, and click on “members, a few members appear, before the list is interrupted by the following:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a005e'

Invalid use of Null

/forum/inc_functions.asp, line 701

Thank you very much for your time and attention.

Yours, Gert

First, to make a backup of the forum, simply copy all of the files into a separate folder. Something like /forum_backup/ is fine. As long as everything gets copied there (including database), you're safe.

Next, do you know what MODs, if any, are installed on your forum? If there aren't any installed, you can probably get away with using a clean install of the forum, then use your current database. You'll probably need to run the database upgrade on it though. But again, make sure you have a backup of the database before you do this.

If there are MODs installed, you'll want to figure out which ones. Then, get a clean copy of the newest version and install them into it, one by one. Once you've done that, move your database over and upgrade. That should get you going. The support here is awesome, so if you run into any problems along the way, just post and I guarantee you'll get help.

I'm not sure about the other error. Do you know what changes have been made to that file?
