1- I put all my CD's in CD cases and stashed the jewel cases in a box. 2- I have a name database that lets me flag any entry as a CHRISTMAS entry and then print a report with all the names. I think you can do something like this with Outlook, my app is a home-built app.
I personally have all of my CD's (with track lists) in an Excel spreadsheet. Rather than try to keep the CD's in order whenever I buy a new one, I just have them numbered. Then I keep them in a CD binder that holds up to 350 CD's... I'm getting ready to start on my second binder.

Since I am not only a listener of music, but an avid collector, I don't like to play my originals so I encode them to mp3 and store the tracks on my 200GB Media Drive. I then permanently store my cd's in boxes which I have also tracked in a database I have created for easy retrieval at a later date. I now just listen to my mp3's and not the originals and when I need to travel I transfer the ones I want to my IPOD for remote listening.
