Hi, I am hosting this forum on a community site, and have noticed that one member has sent most (if not all) of my users a spam email. (the one where they just need your bank account # to deposit all of the money).
Anyways this users IP did a traceroute to Paolo Alto (or something like that), im in Northern Canada. They emailed everyone in virtually no time, so im wondering if there has been a hack into the snitz forums for something like this, if so is there a fix to prevent it from happening in the future? |

Depends on how you have your email setup, but usually you don't see the email of the member until they have replie to your first email (email mode:on). If you have email mode off, it is very easy to strip all the email addresses out of the database |

What was the subject line on all of these e-mails? Were the e-mails sent from the forum, or from the person's e-mail client? |

For the first time in almost 3 years, I'm experiencing something like this too. There is a guy spamming most of my members (but not me the Admin) announcing his new forum and a contest to entice people to register.
In my case, it appears that he is sending via the forum so I do not think he can see my members emails. It's just an annoyance so I'm now mannually approving pending members. If it becomes a continued problem, I'll need to use the IPGate mod. What a pain. |
