Has anyone had problems with the validation mechanism when using Firefox as the browser? I found two problems, which I can recreate when using Firefox, that I don't have when using IE6. I've got "require registration" turned on, and also have "E-mail Validation" and "Restrict Registration" on. First, when creating a new account (or changing an address), I don't get an email when using firefox, but I do when using IE. Second, if I try and approve the account (as an admin) with firefox, they don't get the email telling them they are approved. If I use IE, they do.
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks

The browser you are using has nothing to do with sending the email. Once your browser can submit a form on a website, that is all that is needed for the forum to send an email to the recipient. Of course, along with your email settings properly setup.
You have a link to your forum that we can test it out? What are your email settings? |

That is why I was confused, I know all the email stuff is done server side. Doing more testing last night, I found it does appear to be working, but the emails are VERY slow (3-6 hours) being sent from the server. I've tried the CDONTS and CDOSYS, but both seem to perform about the same. I also have options for ChiliMail and OCXMail. It appears only the options you have available appear in the drop down? Is there a preference for the email component type? I'm using the smtp server that my host provides, which may be the problem, but I'm not remembering a slow down with the previous version of snitz. (although things may have changed since I last used it) I currently have 3.3.? installed and the 3.4.05 installed in a /newforum directory for testing. They are using different databases.
The link to the forum is: www.wiialumni.org/newforum/default.asp The "old" forum is at: www.wiialumni.org/forum/default.asp But I modded it to perform like the new forum, which doesn't allow anyone to see anything until they are approved. I'd like to take advantage of all the improvements of 3.4, though, so I'd really like to get this working.
Thanks for the response. |

Would suggest you check with your host on what email component you can use to send emails from your site and the email server to specify. Then use that to do your testing. If it is still slow to send out emails, let your host know. Maybe they can explain why it is so or change something for you on the server.
Which of your forum are you saying you have the email problem with? The old one or new one? |

The new one seems to be much slower than the old one. I tried sending mail from both, and the old one is slow too, but not as slow as the new one. I've got an email into support to find out about the slowness. They reported that AOL and AT&T have been blocking all mail from them periodically, so they may be doing some extra filtering which is taking a while...
