Is there any way to have the site email an administrator when a new user applies for an account?? We would want our administrators notified immediately when someone has a new account pending approval. I didn't know if this could be done out of the box, or if someone has a mod that would allow it.

There is an option called "restrict registration". Administrators have to approve new members, but I'm not sure whether they receive notification by e-mail (I have never used it myself).

You can activate it and see if you receive an e-mail, or you just see a list of new users in admin options --> Pending members. It wouldn't be difficult to implement the functionality to send an e-mail to the admin in this case, either.
