Just throwing another site to take a look at for formatting... This is my site. Essentially, the left is a basic navigation bar, the center "What's New" portion is taken directly from a forum where only the Admin has the ability to post new topics to. To the right is my slightly modified version of the slashdot mod that shows a sneak peek (new topics, recent posts, hot topics, and some stats).

Nothing revolutionary, but pretty complete with information...
