After getting excellent support from ruirib, I now have my own forum working. 
I have made one observation, it is not really a bug, maybe an area for improvement.
If I already have subscribed to a certain level, f.i. Category, and the Administrator then lowers the max level below that f.i to Forum, all the icons for subscribing and unsubscribing goes away, meaning that I as an ordinary user cannot change my subsciptions.
I do not know if my original subscriptions still are there or if they are lost, I have not tested that.
