I am trying to set up the latest version of the forum, but I am forced to use frontpage to load the files because all of my account is set up with the fp extensions. FTP will not work. My host is 1and1.com. Is there a way to remove or change the things that fp adds to files when it uploads them that makes the program not work?

My forum is at http://www.moonstarlodge.com/forum

I am using MS Access and the second connection string (strConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("/Forum/db/5283837.mdb")

When I try to input the username and password, it tells me that there are 13 critical errors and the database needs to be reinstalled. this error just loops back on itself if I try to reinstall the password.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

the errors are due to inproper permissions on the folder containing the database. either put the database in the fpdb folder or ask your host to correct the permission on the folder containing your database.

Thanks for the quick response Nikkol.

I have checked with my host and have corrected the folder and file permissions. The /db folder is now read and execute only, and the file is read, write, and execute. They ran a script checker on config.asp and it showed no errors, but the same 13 critical errors message comes up. Where do I go from here?

The /db folder also must have Write permissions enabled. Access creates a temporary .ldb file when running, if it's unable to create this file becuase the folder does not have write permissions you will get the errors.

I changed the folder permissions to read, write and execute, checked the folder and there is a .ldb file there, but I still get the errors list when I try to enter the admin name and pw.

Nikkol: What are the NTFS permissions and how are they different from folder/file permissions? Could you please tell me how to change them? Thanks.

Gremlin: I just tried to run setup.asp this morning and it still gives the 13 critical errors when I try to enter the admin name/pw. I can't get past this point. Thanks.

How are you changing the file/folder permissions? Using Windows Explorer or something else?

The host has a program that allows me to view the directory structure and change the permissions of folders and files, and add or delete folders. My account is running on a microsoft server.

Then use the program to set read/write permissions for the anonymous internet user on the database file and folder. This user has a name like IUSR_COMPUTERNAME.

I'm not quite sure how, but I have managed to get the permissions set up and the forum is now running. I am really grateful to all of you for your kind assistance. Blessings.
