I think that these type issues should be handled privately or at least attempted. I tried that. I emailed a moderator about my reaction to the post. Nothing was done and nothing has been done. In fact, if you will look at the gayrites thread you will see a post where another took offense at the statement and that was submitted before this thread was started and yet nothing has been done to correct the original post or put a halt to it before it erupts into something more.

At the time I thought that title was offensive, otherwise I wouldn't have asked you to change the title. But what has been said in the topic you find offensive has not offended me, and nobody has stepped up to say he/she was offended, therefore nobody has requested anything to be changed.

I can not tell anyone how to think but I don't understand how calling myself a straight man is offensive to anyone and I don't understand how someone attacking another's religious or political beliefs could not be considered offensive by anyone. I thought a moderator was to moderate based on board rules and what was best for the board not on their personal stances.

I believe that if you find something offensive, you should speak your mind about it, which you haven't done in that topic, where you should've complained about inappropriate content (IMO).

That thread is supposed to be about David's forums not his or my beliefs or ideology. I saw no need to detract from his thread and to divert attention from his forum review. I also thought that rather than getting into an arguememnt over differing ideas that the moderators should be involved. I emailed a moderator about the issue and then I posted here in the open discussion forum.

As for your email: I never received any emails on the address I have on file here, so I couldn't have replied to it.

At the time of my topic change, I emailed you personally and apologized telling you that I never intended to offend you. You emailed me back and told me that since I had changed the title everything was ok.

I looked at the gayrites topic again, and the only thing that might be considered offensive was apparently handled and settled in the first 3 posts. I, as did Huw, do not see anything that needs to be changed.
If you emailed a moderator about an issue and he/she didn't do anything about it, I'd say he/she made a judgement call. Unless your email never arrived, the moderator should have returned your email to explain what actions (if any) had been taken and for what reason.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong posts though, so please let me know (either here or in an email) what exactly it is you find offensive and I'll take another good look.

Not everything a moderator or admin posts here is in that "official" role. Perhaps we should all get regular member accounts to post when we don't want to be "on the job" to make sure nobody'll think our requests are official when they're based on personal ideas?

It doesn't matter what the topic is about. If you read something you find offensive, say so by posting a reply, or contact the author of the post. By not saying anything, you're doing exactly what you're accusing the moderators of.
Again, if you emailed a moderator to ask him/her to take action, it's up to the moderator to decide if your request should be honored. He/she should have, IMO, emailed you back to let you know what his/her decision was.

I thought you meant you emailed me in regards to this new topic, not back when you posted the topic in which I asked you to change the title.

I'd lock this but it's too much fun to read. :)

Oh yeah, I finally looked at the original post and I don't see anything there that warrants anyone getting offended.

It is fun reading.

Everyone should just kiss and make up.. As long as it don't offend anyone!!!!!!

I saw nothing wrong with both topics in question. The "Snitz Eye For The Straight Guy" was a great play on words and surprised me when RT was asked to change it as well. I also think there is nothing wrong with the "gayrites.net forums" topic either. David was just promoting his new forum as was RT.

There is also no need to both publically go off at a moderator, or a moderator to go off at a user. Lets just call it "disagree to disagree" and get on with it. The rest should just be done with e-mails and this topic locked. My 5 cents worth (Aussie 5 cents, or US 3.55 cents).

Above all, all parties should not take offence to my personal opinion. Think of it as a slight tap on the shoulder asking for it not to continue with bad feelings or publicly.

Cheers,

David Greening

Wow, this is the first time I've seen a 'flare-up':) like this here since the addition of the flags to the logo that some people disagreed with.

Snitz is a very accesible community used by many people with different walks of life, and the moderators do a great job in my opinion in coping with this.

No one has a right to expect others to be understanding and sensitive to an individuals ideals, that's life, and only my humble opinion.

I personally do find the topic of discussion offensive, but would prefer to ignore rather than complain about it, but there is an opportunity here to make my post.

The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails

I tend to just ignore topics I don't like. Works for me, i'm not forced to read it.
