Okay, I'm feeling like an idiot today. GoDaddy is advertising transfers for $7.95 which I think includes a 1-year extension.
When I go through the check out process which has tons of products that I am careful not to check off - the last page before collecting my payment info says ".COM Transfer (1 Yr FREE + 1 Add'l)" for a total of $15.90. Shouldn't it be $7.95 or am I missing something? |

Go daddy is evil! Its a pain to transfer FROm them as well. What are you paying per year as it stands?

It's kind of misleading. That "Free" 1-year extension is included in the $7.95 initial cost, if you are also adding another year, then it's another $7.95 for a total of $15.90. Basically what you get with that "free" 1 year-extension, is that Godaddy will honor any remaining time you have on your domain (say you registered it last month with another registrar and are now transferring it to godaddy, for the $7.95 transfer fee, you'll get your remaining 11 months from your previous registrar, plus 1 year with godaddy for a total of 23 months).
And no, Godaddy is not evil. all of my domain names are registered with them, I've never had any trouble with them at all. |

Thanks Richard. I didn't realize that I could leave the drop down alone... i.e. not add the "1 Add'l" year.
I think I'm okay now. Just tired.
I was paying double what GoDaddy charges. |

I also have all my domains with GoDaddy and have no problems. For the price, I'm happy to click a couple "no thanks" to a couple ads they throw at you. I have transferred a number of domains from other registrars to godaddy without any hassles at all.

I have no problems with Godaddy they've always been pretty good, but there are cheaper places still that seem to be just as good but not as well known and dont try to sell you 15,000 other products at the same time. |

you could try easily.co.uk (not the cheapest but zero problems in 6 years) or ukreg.com (cheap as chips, helpdesk not as flexible)

Thanks everyone. I put things in to action to transfer with GoDaddy. Will see how it goes. |
