even though I am getting very good page generation times (~0.5 secs) your pages are taking several seconds to load into the browser, looks like your network is very slow.

Well, for me it takes 0.22 to load and it's very fast to load into the browser, less than a second. Of course it depends on the page I am loading because there are some that have loads of Mods and implementations like the first and cant be so fast as the others which have "light" code.

The real speed for me there its the same as in here (for the pages that we use closer codes, since, as I told you, there are some that have very "heavy" code compared to the ones used in here) and both servers arent in Brazil so I might guess that this can be something related to your communication with the server (your provider's, for example)

See you huwr and hope you can give us your feedback (apart from connection thing) about the site. Thanks

I doubt it is my connection, I am on a 1.5Mb cable, and do not generaly have trouble loading any other sites, but your portal page takes nearly 20 seconds to fully appear in my browser, it can't be because of the extra code as it says it only took 0.7 secs to render

well, its pretty strange indeed cause I have 1.2MB and I can connect pretty fast. Sometimes the bg cell color images reload but the page itself is already loaded.

Anyway, I dont know what might be causing your lag while connecting to the site.

What is the point in showing the 'page generated in' stat if it is not relative to the transfer the site lives at? Or am I missing something?

I know some other forum software expresses this as 'page generated at server in x, x queries used' but did think this was more of a debugging kind of stat, and it becomes pretty meaningless IMHO if the host or ISP is lagging somehow.

I like the GML project Gato, good work implementing all the mods, especially in the control panel.

I'll agree, the pages do take a while to load, but generation times are good so obviously the network is slow. I'm on a 9 m/bit cable connection so no, it's not my connection. Other than that I like the box hiding and closing code you use on the main page.

Well, so I must say sorry for all of you if you have been facing problems on the connections. It might be the server that needs a better connection or something similar. I just thought it was something related to huwr's provider and gml's server cause I wasnt facing any problems at all with loading (I wasnt trying the portal page). So sorry about that.

Now, turning back on site's look itself: thanks sr erick for your feedback and glad that you like that. We will implement an even better code on that page which will make it faster while using these codes. Btw, when logged in you can choose rather use or not use each of the little boxes and also choose their default status. And the admin can choose which of them may or may not be hidden/close/maximized...

Oh, what do you think about the MultiLanguage Selection?

See you guys!

My only comment would be that many people will not download your code because you force them to register first

Gato,

I'd like to comment on the GML code also.
As you know I've started oxle.com and opzolder.net with the 'old' CrashCode as base.
The last year I've recreated the entire site, based on default Snitz, and decided to leave CrashCode for what it is.
The reason for that is that in my opinion CrashCode was too much ; the portal_content page contains so much information that it is simply too much and not very clear anymore. Too many boxes, too many info, etc. For instance, you've got the sticky note on the site, AND there is the 'Important GML Portal News' box, and yet another box 'Portal Notice'.
Too much information in my honest opinion.
The quote box is very dominant on the portal page, which isn't necessary....it's a nice to have, but it's not that important that it should be in the middle of the first page you see.

Don't get me wrong ! ; I admire the work you and your team have put into the site however, especially into the Multi-Language functionality! That's a real good thing!
However, I really think that the other mods (66 if I'm not mistaking) are a bit too much, and some of them are useless and are cluttering the experience.

I think that, with a couple of mods taken out, and focussed on performance and multilanguage it can be 'the best'.

Just my 2 cents....

marcelgoertz, I absolutly agree with you. However, Gato has coded it so that every added MOD and feature can be either included or excluded from within the admin section. Take a look at my test site (http://dev4.whipp.us/portal_content.asp), I've not modified the code. I just turned everything on the portal page "off".

Sorry Roland. I obviously forgot to turn off the old "Require Registration" option. It's off now.

kwhipp, I know that, but as this is the 'Show off your forums' forum, I took a look at http://jag24.com/gml and gave my opinion about that site.
Next to that I based it on my experience with CrashCode, so that's why I also give my opinion on the code itself and the way it is progressing.
