Ever since I joined this community and installed my first forum, I've been interested in programming. I still remember when installing a MOD when I finally figured out the IF-End If syntax (Hey - I was 14 and had never used a programming language before...). I still remember the first time I could start to read the code, and understand every line. Since I first setup my server at home, I've learned a lot about Windows Servers, and have successfully kept mine secure and stable since December. About a year or so ago, I started in VB programming, first with the basics, but then getting more advanced. (Currently, I'm building a client-server network administration program)
This summer, I got a job working for the Town government, managing a website, and general systems maintenance, as well as network administration (When was the last time you heard of a 15-yo having this type of job?!). This is the best thing that has ever happened to me, the past 3 years of my life have pretty much consisted of me, sitting in front of a computer, coding or scripting. But in the end it payed off, and now I have a job where I will be fat ahead of any of my peers that want to go into the IT field.
All of this roots back to Snitz, if I hadn't found this site, who knows where I would be today, I probably wouldn't have very much knowledge in computers, I wouldn't have a job, I wouldn't have a future.
Unfortunately, I'm not very active on this site anymore, not nearly as much as I'd like to be, but back when I was, I received a ton of help from everyone here. I'd just like to say thanks, you'll never know how thankful I am of what you all have done for me, but thanks.
I know I still have a long and hard road ahead of me (it's really hard to do good in school when you are visually-handicapped), but I know that Snitz really did make my life better.
Thanks everyone!
Ps: Yeah, I will make a donation once I get my credit card and paypal account. |

I feel the love
Actually that's a moving post, I hope I speak for everyone here when I say I'm really pleased for you, and that your spirit of seeing code and wanting to learn is what will carry you through to greater things. In IT you will never (indeed can never!) stop learning... |

When a 15yo says something like this :
quote:

Then I see a very bright future - why ? Because it generally describes me a year or 2 ago (LOL!). You will appreciate it more when, straight out of school, you can say you have X years experience in programming, etc, etc.
How do you thank Snitz ? I think you just did, that's great mate .... keep up the good work |

Always great to hear good stories like this :)
Once you've started programming and have gotten one language under your belt you'll find you can pickup most other lanaguages with a lot less effort than it took to get that first one down pat. |
