I don't know whether it sends email or not. Instead of approving the accounts, you need to activate them. Like that no emails will be sent. If you approve them, them the forum will try to send emails and may cause you errors.

Anyway, you don't need an email server located at your web server. The forum can use any email server, for example, the one from your ISP.

Hi,
I noticed you helped out in August with a problem that's in the same vein as one I'm having: I am trying to turn on the registration validation option in my forum, but I can't get the "Email validation" in the email server config section to stay selected to On. I assume this is also why I can't get the "Require registration" in the Main options to stay selected to On as well.

I'm running v3.4.04 on SQL Server7
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Munn, Kevin

Do you have email turned On?

The "Email mode" in the email server config section is selected to On.
I dopn't know if this is relative -> We are using CDONTS as the Email component; does this mean that we should NOT enter an email server name, or that it doesn't make any difference if we do or don't?

thanks,
Kevin

It does make a difference, you need to specify an email server.
To fix the issue of settings not sticking, here is a dbs file you can use in the Alternate Mod Setup window, in Admin Options:

[UPDATE]
CONFIG_NEW
C_VALUE#1#C_VARIABLE='STREMAILVAL'
C_VALUE#1#C_VARIABLE='STRREQUIREREG'
[END]
