Hi,
I moved our site to a new server using the newest version of Snitz. Some members can get in fine, while others cannot.
They login. It says they are logged in, but it keeps taking them back to the login page to login again and will not allow them to access the inside pages until they login.
The cycle seems endless.
I've told them to clear their cookies and cache etc. They have done that and it's still doing the same thing.
Any ideas as to why this is happening? If so, how can I fix it? |

Hi ruirib,
Yes, it has the correct URL.
So far, only 3 members are affected but not everyone has tried to post yet either. 9 of us are in with no problem. That would include me. The other day however, when I went to OneWayMule's board to post a question, the same thing happened to me.
I registered, logged in, the login info took, but it kept returning me to the login screen. After several attempts at inputting my username and password info, I was finally able to gain access. |

may very well be your IE security settings. Experiment with this...
- click on IE's TOOLS, then Internet Options - go to Security tab, click on Default level - adjust your level one notch lower - try your logon tasks once again
Also, similar problems may crop up if you have a personal firewall.
goodluck!

BTW, tested your Portal's logon page and got in with no problems. My IE security settings is set to medium. personal firewall is temporarily disabled.

Thanks, padawan. :)
Mine are set to medium high and I can get in. I used the same setting at OneWayMule's and got brought back to the login page several times before I was successful at gaining entrance.
I did tell those that can't get in to lower their security settings. In one case, her setting was lower than mine was. I'm not sure about the other two as I haven't heard back from them yet.
The problem does seem limited to IE though. Those who use Netscape have had no trouble.

I had no problems loggin in, either. My firewall is on and my IE privacy settings are set to medium. The cookie seems ok to me, as well. Make sure the users with the problem have their computer's time correct. Other than that, I think deleting all cookies, closing all browser windows and then trying the login again should fix the problem. |

Thanks, ruirib
I told them about the cookies, cache, security settings, but the time? No.
Why would that impede things?

Ok, thanks, ruirib. I'll pass that along.
Thanks again for your help. :) You guys are all great. I know you spend countless hours of your time helping others for free and that probably isn't acknowledged as much as it should be. |

Jacqueline - did you solve this problem?
I have one member reporting this: quote: I can't seem to use the members contact page - say I want to write an email to someone, when I come into the main forum page, I log in, and get the successful response, but then if I try and use the member's page, i get the screen that says "there was a problem, you have to be logged in" . Next I log in again, and then the screen jumps between the successful message and the there was a problem message.
So I am unable to contact any of the members. Can you help?
I already had this member go into Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete Cookies. Closed the browser and started again but this did not work.
Any other suggestions? Based on this post, I just told her to check her IE security settings and computer's time. |

I get the same from time to time, and it always seems IE realted but I have yet to track down the cause. I have near 7,000 members and only see it happen once a month or so. The upload and image viewing scripts I use check for the logged in cookie and a user that is logged in and posting fine will get the "You must be logged in to access this page" error trying to upload a file or they won't see any attachments as the script doesn't think they're logged in. Never happens in any other browser, just IE. |

I have about 750 members. The member having this issue had been fine all along (at least 2.5 years) and suddenly now there is a problem. I'm not sure what changed. But, yes, it's IE.
Gary - does the problem go away for each person? What do you tell them to do? |

Hi, Taropatch
Yes, the problem was fixed eventually, but let me tell you, it was a pain. lol
The last one to get in was using Norton Internet Security. There is a topic set-up for that in these boards somewhere. I applied the patch as directed.
She still couldn't get in after the patch was installed. I had her delete her browser cache and cookies and walked her through the security settings one by one.
The user needs to delete their windows cookie also.
If they are using XP, they'll find it in the Documents & Settings folder. There is a cookie folder in there and there will be a forum cookie in that folder. |
