Is it possible in v.3.4.xx for the moderator(s) or administrator to delete a single posting (without deleting the entire thread/topic)?

If so - how? If not - why not? ?

yes it is - by using the delete button that appears alongside things like edit post, reply with quote etc above the users post - the button is (well originally anyway) a bin.
