recently my computer has been disconnected randomly from the net - sometimes after an hour sometimes jst seconds after connecting.
im blaiming it on my computer - seen as noone else in the house has any problems with it but i cant figure out what it is...
ive checked all my internet settings, ive tried connecting with nothing open other than windows and the main system proccesses, ive tried re-installing my modem driver numerous times, ive tried deleting then adding my internet connection back on, ive got no viruses (well according to norton antivirus and i updated it yesterday), ive tried deleting any programs that could be at all dodgy... im out of ideas!
its bad enough being on a 56k to start with but with it disconnecting so often... arg
any help greatly appreciated guys!

do the other people access the net via the same modem ?
do you have call waiting enabled on your phone line ?
are you able to try a different modem ?

if the modem works on your sisters laptop, then it is unlikely to be the modem. Only other suggestion would be a dodgy serial port, you could maybe get a USB-Serial adaptor to try and use the modem via USB instead of serial

Also make sure your not using a really long phone cord.

Are you using a telephone jack or cable modem?
If its a telephone jack, pull the cover off the phone jack and check the wires for tightness.
Try plugging the laptop into that phone jack.
Do you still have disconnect problems with the laptop plugged into your computer's phone jack?
Change out the phone cord that connects your computer to the phone jack.
If you have problems on the laptop, then you know its the phone line connection.
If you still have problems after these steps then you might want to suspect the computer.
Hope that helps. . .
