Hello everyone,

I just had an idea .... is it possible/does anyone know of a mod or software add-on that I could use to offer the visitors to my Snitz-forum based community webmail so they would have an email addres like username@mycommunity.com.

Has anyone tried this already ?

Thanks for the feedback

You will have a very hard time getting anything to work out of the box. Trust me, i've done a lot of research on the subject. It will require quite a bit of custom programming to connect the database for the forum with the database of the mail server. (unless you don't care about duplicated or inconsistent data) I will be doing this shortly, but luckly I have some good connections where I work. I'll be using the webmail system we currently have in production there, as well as all of our custom spam filtering technologies, and integrate all of the mail stuff into thier database so a member has to push a few buttons, *enter a few CC numbers*, and they have webmail for a year. Bingo, done deal. I don't have any sort of finished product yet, but it's going to be available to my users this coming fall.

I'm working on the same issue right now for my customers. But as this depend so much on tha mailserver you are using behind there can't be no out-of-the-box solution for it.

I was looking into this with sr_erick and I just thought of something that might work. The mail server I use can be upgraded to be stored in a sql database. If the mail was stored in a database, I do not see why a program could not real the SQL database to get the information out of it.

brad, if you are using Merak then you can get an activeX component which will create the mail accounts for you.

huwr that is what i was thinking about. The active X could create the e-mail accounts and then you can customize the web interface to fit into your site. Now I have never done this, but there should be no reason why it wouldnt work.

so, did I found a small Merak community in here? I'm considering the upgrade to sql backend too, it's just that the components are not very friendly to use; configuring all that with sql should be mucg easier. And yes; integrating that in your own site shouldn't be an issue then.

Huw: That'll be great! I'm not sure though if they'd help as Icewarp has totally rewritten the API over the last months.
