I found this old thread asking the same question but wondered if anyone had the mod available for download. http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=14598
I got about 2 pewople per day who have either forgotten their username or don't even have an account but think they forgot their user name.
They use the "forgotten password" link, and they enter a username and e-mail, and they get an e-mail message saying that "The details supplied were wrong or unkown."
They are affraid to register again as it states "Do not sign up for a 2nd account!" So, they e-mail me looking for help.
Anyone have a Forgot User Name mod? |

try this file:
http://richardk.digitalrice.com/files/password.zip
Just replace your current password.asp file with this one. (make sure you keep a backup of your current file, just in case)
Let me know how it works for you and your users... |

Richard -
The modified password.asp file you provided works well. My only suggestion is to move the row with the checkbox that you added up under the username prompt. Here is what I did with it. |

Richard,
I tried your password mod file. The page sends the email with a link but upon clicking on the link the user is not presented the opportunity to change their password, as identified in the Step 3. Am I missing something?

Also, when I enter both the username and email address I get the following error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'WHERE'.
/forum/password.asp, line 171

If you mean after requesting the username, then that is by design. After the username is sent back to you, you will need to enter that in the form, and then submit it again. |

oops...
I fixed the problem in the download file. You can just re-download the file to get the fixed version. |

Thanks, I really like what you did.
I broke it out into 2 different forms. One for forgot password and one for forgot username. I also edited all the error messages and e-mails sent out to reflect which of the 2 forms the person used.
You can see it here: http://aawsm.com/forums/password.asp
and download it here: http://aawsm.com/forums/download/password.zip
And I edited my inc_header.asp to say Forgot your Password / Username?
Let hope this cuts down on the e-mails. I got 2 today already.
thanks, Ray |

Will this thread get moved to "MOD Add-On Forum (W/Code)" or am I supposed to post it there too? |
