My web-hoster only supports Access 97 at the moment. I created a database with Access 97 and then when I needed to amend it I opened it in Access 2000 (which I have at work) and told it not to convert it to Access 2000. I assumed that this should ensure the database remain an Access 97 version but when I uploaded it again I was told that it was Access 2000!
Does anyone have any idea how to ensure it stays as Access 97? I have even tried using the 'Convert to previous version' tool in Access 2000 but it apparently didn't work because my hoster told me it was a 2000 DB!
I am getting very frustrated with this because I want to be able to amend the DB in my own time and not be worried that every time I upload it, it will be the wrong version.
Can anyone help me please?!!

First, you can't change any database structure of an Access 97 db using Access 2000. All you can do is edit data in existing tables, queries, forms. If you modified any structural settings, you could not have said not to convert the database.
As far as your host, if you are using a connection string to connect, like the forum uses, you should be able to use the Jet 3.5x driver (Microsoft Access, not Jet.4.0) even with an Access 2000 db. If you need to actually run Access 2000 on the server, that's a different story.
Converting to previous version works properly for me. If you open a .mdb with Access 2000 by doubleclicking it, and it opens without a message, it's an Access 2000 db. If it's Access 97, you will get the dialog about converting the database.
In any case, Access 2000 is almost 2 years old now, so you might think of a host that keeps up with the times better :)

I would leave the host. Office XP is going to be out soon with a new database engine, so access 97 is going to be 3 versions old.
shame on the host for even daring to say that they dont support access 2k

Bit late now since I only just got the host. My job is a Web Developer and my home website (with blueyonder) was plain html because they don't support anything else. I therefore decided to get hosting so I could do some asp etc. but most of the places I found on the web within my price range only supported cgi so I was a bit limited for choice. Anyway, I'm with them now for at least a year because they obviously have the money so the best I can hope for is to try and figure out how to make the best of what is available to me.
As for your other points...
a) my host has set up a DSN for me, and b) there may be new versions of Office coming out but that will involve me and the host purchasing them!
I've given up on the database stuff for now and I'm just using the host to allow me to create asp pages as opposed to simple html. I've been developing my javascript skills too so that gives me greater scope for my pages.
Thanks anyway!
