This is driving me crazy. IIS isn't behaving the way it should be. It won't show any of the images when I view a forum or any page on my localhost. Some forum asp pages won't load. The browser just keeps loading, but nothing happens.

I try going to admin_home.asp in a default out-of-the-box setup of snitz, I put in username and password, login sucessful, then it says page not found. Huh?

Whenever I use IE to view some of the forum pages, and the page doesn't load, everything freezes up on me, and the only way out is to cut the power from the computer and turn it back on. Probably might not be related.

But anyway, going directly to a simple gif file, the browser keeps loading, but nothing happens.

I have reinstalled IIS. Set the site settings to Read only, everything else is unchecked. Allow Anonymous Access.
I added IUSR_computername to the C:/Inetpud/wwwroot directory for read access.

But those darn images won't load. What am I doing wrong? grrrrr

Did you check the status of the IIS related services with iisreset?

Go to a command window and type iisreset /STATUS. There are other options like STOP and START. I used to have problems with my IIS and using iisreset to start it and stop it allowed me to overcome them.

You should also make sure you don't have NIS or NAV script blocking set to On.

I usually just stop and start the server using the START, STOP.

Here is what I got for that command:
Status for World Wide Web Publishing ( W3SVC ) : Running

As for those other programs (NAV, NIS) I don't have such programs. Wouldn't bring them near my system.

Try stopping the service and restarting it with iisreset and see if it helps. Anyway, your IIS seems a bit loony to me...

Yeah it does. I had recently installed SecureIIS (http://www.eeye.com/html/Products/SecureIIS/) to test it out. But now it won't sucessfully uninstall. I'm hoping that didn't mess up IIS. Even though I already re-installed IIS.

A couple other tips, make sure you are the administrator user when you install IIS.

I am not familiar with SecureIIS, by name it sounds similar to the iis lockdown tool and urlscan from MS, both of which can mess up asp if you're not careful when installing.

You might look around the troubleshooting section at www.iisfaq.com

I have used IIS lockdown and URLScan too. Good tools. Never had any problems installing those.

And yes, to the installing as admin question. Wouldn't be able to install without admin rights. Would get a bunch of errors before actually being able to start IIS.

I'm looking around and searching the net for users who had similar problems, but this problem seems strange, to actually pinpoint what is causing it.

Thanks guys.

It's hard to know what is happening. If SecureIIS does indeed use the IIS lockdown tool, you may want to install it again or use it to try to get IIS back on track. I'm jut guessing here... but there ain't much that I can suggest.

You can install IIS as a normal user on XP, but it doesn't work well. Trust me :)

Have you got a virus scanner running, if so, try excluding your web directory
