OK, the fastest way to get a site on the air is to use already written code, right ?

So a few hours later Googling, and perusing quite a few ASP code sites I still haven't come up with anything that I need (maybe I'm just too pedantic ). What I'm after is :

- a Poll/voting system that allows for MULTIPLE active questions at the same time. Cookie protection to slow down people voting multiple times; 8+ options per question

- Links manager, hopefully with a click-thru counter; ratings; reviews but all those features are optional

- an Announcements system. Basically a 'slash' system without the reply feature.

- Event calendar, with day, month, year view.

Now here's the trick ... I know Snitz has all these features but this site has NO use for forums as such. Can anyone suggest any programs that they use ? Obviously all programs must be password protected (or I can add that easily anyway)

Yes, I could write all this stuff myself, but I need to fast-track this thing so I was hoping to grab some prewritten stuff and adjust to suit my needs.

Any help appreciated ...

ROFL ... most ones that sound remotely possible to what I what I'm focussing on the voting at the moment, but most sites like aspin.com , asp101.com , etc have a selection of all.

Basically I'm just interested to see if anyone has had similar requirements, or what their favourite one is. Almost like me ... I have my favourite hoster and forum software if anyone asks what my preference is.

I looked around a bit and thought this one felt strangely familiar...it's snitz based.

http://www.maxwebportal.com/default.asp

Wonder what version it's based on and if they've applied the latest patches.

hmmm....I think this one is based on a fairly old version.

It still has the inc_top.asp file and I don't see any sign of the inc_header.asp file. The db user names and passwords aren't encrypted. No sign of the inc_sha256.asp file either.

Yeah, Maxwebportal was one of my first stops but they don't seem to have polls and I don't really need all the forum features.

I also hadn't noticed before that they have remove the Snitz version info.

wii, I've had a quick scan through there, but I'll look again

Laser,

What DB are you looking to use with the portal? Haven't seen too much with MySQL capability.

I don't mind, the server runs Windows so I have Access and mySQL access.

I've never done anything with DBs myself, but surely anything made to work with access could be made to work with mySQL or MS SQL with ease?

Even Snitz has different code for the different RDBMSs, especially mySQL. With something as simple as this though, I would assume that the SQL is the same.

Can anyone recommend a good news manager? This is for my non-snitz site. Need something to help manage a page for press releases and/or mentions in the press. Has anyone tried these or can recommend others?

Check out the stuff at www.duware.com
I used their links as the basis for my link manager. I basically re-wrote the whole thing to use the SNitz DB, but the stuff will work.

The code is basically all created by Dreamweaver, so it isnt the most efficient or readable.

laser, why not just use the snitz code and add the mods? you said you have no use for a forum, so just dont link to it :-) just cause you dont have a forum does not mean you cant use the other mods with it

Kinda agree with Brad there, I've used "snitz" for a few things before where the forum was pretty much non-existant, just remember to keep the copyrights intact and your good to go.

Yeah, I thought about this for a long time, but dismissed it because I'd still have to expose parts of the forum at times (well, that's my thinking anyway ). I might consider it again, but the DUWare looks quite good as well. I've downloaded a few products, but not installed them yet though.
