I am having a little problem with the Junk Mail feature.
I have Outlook setup to check about 8 different POP3 accounts and then move the e-mails to different mailbox folders based on the account it came from. What is happening, is the e-mails that are considered junk are being moved to the Junk Mail folder like they should, but then they are being moved to each individual mailbox folder based on my rule. So, I still get the alert that there are messages in my Junk Mail folder, but they aren't really there because they have been moved to their respective mailbox folder based on the account they were received with.
Anyone run into this problem? Is there a way to fix it so that Junk Mail will stay in the Junk Mail folder, and legitimate mail will be moved to the mailbox folders based on my rules? |

sounds like you need to exclude your junkfolder from the other processing rules, I don't use outlook, but atleast in poco you can also set which folders the rule applies to, so you would exclude the junk folder from the list of folders to process. |

Haven't encourtered that problem myself (not that I've noticed anyway). I think if you add the email addresses of your pop accounts to your safe recipients list you can probably get around it that way. |

I use it - and with NIS I get the Norton AntiSpam buttons installed into my Outlook.
I too have Outlook bringing in numerous mail from around 20 pop3 email accounts.
I have never had the problem you are experiencing - and I have never had to add emails to any safe list. I cannot understand how that happens with you - it doesn't happen on mine.
Once in the Spam / Junk folder - there it stays - even though I have Rules set up that states - anything to blah@mydomain.com go to this folder.... etc
Sorry Richard.

Yes, I have had the same problem for some time now. Quite disappointing. I've done a lot (LOT) of research on the issue, and there appears to be no solution. I have a large number of POP accounts as well, with a large number of additional filters based on content. I get the messages, as you do, but nothing actually stays in the junk folder. Sure would love a solution for this, as the amount of spam I get (despite spam filters on my mail server) is ridiculous. |

I don't have Outlook 2003, but I've long stopped using Outlook's junk mail recognition, because it simply didn't work properly. What I did instead was install a spam handling app (I use IHateSpam, which I can recommend). This app allows you to have your own Outlook rules to organize incoming email, because you can add a mailbox inspector to each mailbox. So all the junk goes to a single junk folder managed by the IHateSpam, after being channeled to the proper mailbox. Works great and I really like IHateSpam. |

I was looking through Microsoft's Outlook newsgroups and found the following:
http://tinyurl.com/yvuud (original URL had some characters that the forum wouldn't parse correctly)
the post by Patricia Cardoza seems to indicate that at least the Microsoft Outlook MVP's know about it, hopefully that means that Microsoft knows about it also.
I also found this post:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread1519.html
that discusses the same problem, but no solution is mentioned. |

I couldn't find any way to specify what folder the rules apply to. Thanks for the tip though. |

Yup. Very similar to the conversations I found a few weeks back. No joy. This seems like an awfully easy fix, I'm surprised MS hasn't released a patch for it yet. <shrug> Half tempted to install a plug-in for now, until they figure this one out. |
