oxle is dead...
Last tuesday I was experiencing the famous .ldb problems, and the entire forum clogged to a freeze.
I raised an incident with the support group, and I waited...
On thursday still nothing had happened, but I had an idea ; I would upload the db with a different name, and change config.asp to point to the different db...brilliant!
While uploading the db, all of a sudden I got a 'Error 530'...ok.
So, once again I contacted support....
Their reply was this:

Subject: oxle.com disabled

Merhaba Marcel,

I wanted to contact you because Fasthosts disabled your account saying that you violated their terms of service. I can not understand why they did this becuase your web site was completely safe with regard to content and scripts you had on your site.

The only possibility is that your database might got too large and monopolised the server

resources, which might be the reason for server inaccessibility.

They have not provided us the exact reason for disabling your account, but we are for their abuse department to contact us.

I really can not understand Fasthosts being so bad for the last couple of months. We were planning to change our main hosting company. Now, I'm sure that we will change our hosting provider as soon as possible as Fasthosts can never be an option for us anymore.

Best Regards,

Ozgur Sar
AgoraHosting Technical Support

Yesterday I finally got the message why they suspended oxle :
quote:
Fasthosts yesterday sent us an email providing the information about why they disabled the domains. (they disabled 4 web sites including yours)

Their comment for your web site was: your site was using too much scripts that caused the server to fail.

I asked fasthosts what we should do to re-enable web sites and still waiting for their reply.

Oxle is 95% Snitz, I got about 1600 pageviews and 400 visitors a day..
That wouldn't account for 'too much scripts', would it ?
Has anyone else had a similar experience with his/her Snitz-site ?

Ozgür Sar of Agorahosting is now looking for a different dedicated server provider, but most likely oxle will be down for the next two weeks....

As I have said numerous times in the past, it is almost certainly because you are on a server with a couple of hundred other sites, therfore your site is not allowed to use much ram/cpu before it interferes with other websites, hence they shut you down, it is a very common occurence with the big hosting companies.

Yep...I thought that already ; I was already looking for an alternate affordable host in the segment of max 10 US$ a month....even before they suspended oxle.com.
However, I didn't get the time to switch in time..

The search still continues...I will also consider your plans.
However, the expensive £ makes it a bit expensive...(about $ 10,50 per month if paid in advance, for the basic plan).
Thanks for the mail.

Do you at least have access to your files or did they shut down ftp on you as well?

I'm pretty sure he still has access to his files.

Huwr, I thought this was not the place to complain about web hosts?

Excuse me !

Marcel was not complaining about his host, just reporting that his site was down because the account was suspended.

So maybe you should watch what you post in future.

Sorry HuwR, but I wasn't meant to be abrupt towards you, but this is an "off topic" area not specific to Snitz sites. I wasn't complaining about 1&1 (well maybe a bit frustrated!) but was more looking if other users had received any word from them because I know several people on here have sites hosted with them. Personally, I thought it was a valid topic, I could type in my browser www.mysite.com/config.xml and see the xml output which I thought users should be aware of

Sorry Marcel for taking this off topic but HuwR, if you could email me as to why you locked the topic I would be grateful

Nope, no access whatsoever. However, as I made daily backups, I have the latest version of the files, and the almost latest version of the db.

Marcel, I suggest that you contact them immediately, they may be perfectly entitled to shut down your site, but they can not prevent you from retreiving your files, they belong to you not your host.

Unfortunately hosts can get away with not providing your data though, usually under their disclaimer policy they absolve themselves of any and all responsibility for your data and therefore if they say the data has already been deleted you've got no comeback that I'm aware of.

It's extremely unprofessional for any host to do that, but sadly I have read reports of it being done before.

Gremlin,

A disclaimer of liability does not generally cover someone deleting their clients data, that is why we have to take out insurance.

I would still write to them, and quote this from their website
quote:

Putting customers first
Fasthosts has proved that anything is possible - by turning our ideas into
a multi-million pound business. But we can achieve even more. We have the
resources, as well as the skills and motivation, to keep pushing the
boundaries for what's possible in the hosting arena.

Wherever the future takes us, one issue is certain. It's the customer
experience that matters most to us. This was our focus at the beginning -
and it's the factor that will continue to make the Fasthosts brand
distinctive and ensure that we remain the 'provider of choice' in the
Internet marketplace.

Nah, I just try to forget them. That's all I want to do.
They simply are not worth the trouble.
Oxle will be relaunched soon, using Wiktel's services. (sr_erick).
Thanks for the responses!

True Huw, as I said I'd simply read some reports on WHT mentioning it happening, I certainly don't condone it but the couple I remember reading the customer was basically left stranded and couldn't do much about it, granted circumstances there may have been different to marcelgoertz situation.

The problems are over (at least for now). Oxle is back up and running and the guys at Fasthosts can kiss my .... feet.
I was for some time already discussing hosting with sr_ericks host (wiktel), and now the time has come to sign up ; so, oxle is back up again!

however, sr_erick also noticed a rather strange performance decrease, which he suspects is caused by the remains of the crashcode in oxle.
Therefore, I will start a complete redesign of oxle, with Snitz 3.4.04 (or maybe Speedball) as the base, and add all the required mods to it. It will cost me my private life for the next 2 months or so, but it's worth it (That's not what my wife sais....)

I can tell you I had the EXACT same problem with a prior host. I will not name them but rest assured I was educated on hosting and what seperates a knowledgeable host from the rest. My site was a lot smaller back then.

My current stats for the last 30 days equate to 10,774 page views per day and 879 unique visitors per day. Today I host with Reddi-web.com. My site is RidingArizona.com.
