I've recently done an export from my host db to another db but for some reason I have lost unicode characters in the new db. All the structure is the same, ntext, nvarchar etc.

Has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?

And you mean you really lost them in the DB, or may that be caused by the app that shows the info?

sql server to msde2000, same collation.

It's IE that shows the info. Sorry, it's the Snitz forum if I didn't make that clear

Have you tried to look in the DB, with EM, to see if the data has actually been incorrectly copied?

Yes, but I can't enter the characters either, eg in a new post

But are they correctly stored in the MSDE database, at least those from the posts previous to the copy?

Ok, how did you do the copy? Used DTS to transfer the data? Or did you copy the objects between the DBs? If you haven't done it this way, maybe you should try it.

I copied the objects
All Tasks >> Export Data
I might do a full backup and restore it on the new db to see if that works

Yes, I would suggest that you do that, indeed.

Just curious, why do you want to use MSDE2000 with Snitz?
Like its predecessor, MSDE, MSDE 2000 has a built-in performance degrader after five users connect.....

Can you do a restore in MSDE2000 with a backup from SQL server? Think I have read somewhere that MDSE lack this feature, but not sure....

kind regards

MSDE and Sql Server share exactly the same database engine so you can do the same things. It's 25 concurrent connections but i'll take that risk!

Ruirib, my forum is currently running now at www.uk-mkvs.net , if you look at the home page you can see what I mean be the characters, one of the titles under "News" on the left and under the main story picture.
I did an export data using the wizard again rather than a backup and restore and obviously still have the same problem as above.

That's why I suggested a backup and restore. My only explanation for that situation would be that DTS is causing it. With a backup and restore, DTS would be removed from the equation.

I have exported Unicode data before, without problems. Never had MSDE as destination though.
