Wouldn't it be better to get a better hosting company ? .. have a nice word to Gremlin, but you might need to wait until Mon-Tues for a reply. |

If you do want to host your own web, you need:
- A suitable broadband connection that allows you to host a web
- A static IP or a dynamic DNS service
- A registered domain name
- DNS servers for your domain name, either your own DNS servers or a service like zoneedit.com
- A fully patched, locked-down web server.
- Regular backups
If your site needs to be up all the time, then you also need redundancy. |

Not to mention this isn't for newbies...When you have a problem with the server YOU FIX IT, you're not getting any help. You need to be a security expert and know how to properly setup and configure your network.
As to the site being up -all- the time, forget it, not on a residential Internet link, it's not possible, you don't have a climate-controlled data center in your basement, do ya?
Now also I'm 15 and have been running http://railway-forum.com and http://explosivechat.net for 5 Months on my server box, if I can do it, anyone can. (I've experienced less than 12hrs of downtime since December 03.) |

Dave, that may be true, but you probably don't have a day job either. |
