Shutting down is no problem, never had troubles doing it. The issue with the forum name probably is due to server caching. You could ask your host to reset your website and see if that fixes it. |

ok then...here goes (nervous laugh)
I am going to shut down the forum, and if it fails again, then I can just create a new folder again, this is just so fiddly!!!
Cheers!! |

OH NO
I shutdown the forum and it's doing the same thing as before, taking AGES.
Can avoid shutting down the forum, is that bad practice for implementing MODS? I don't know what could be the issue now. It's weird. |

Try just renaming the folder. Did you bring the forum back up again, before trying anything? It's so weird what is happening, I think your server may be the culprit. I never heard of anything similar.
P.S.: you probably have no visitors, yet, so you may skip the forum shutdown part. |

yes, it is weird. I brought the forum back up again...FINE. I just tried to do the shutdown again (on my mac) and then I tried to logout after. And I got an error message:
"Redirection limit for this URL exceed. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked"
Are we getting closer to the solution? It's messed up. If I could call the hosting (not my server) the culprit, in what way can I tell them off? How could it be their fault?
I think I will skip the shutdown part because as the forum is members only (no one can register). Another thing that I am thinking might be the issue, is that I customized the look and feel but when I did the customization, I made sure that the files were working, I got no ASP/VB errors. Could it be that it's getting confused?
The cookies thing has got me thinking... |

ok, i will skip but let me just tell you something bizarre though (could it get more bizarre?):
My original forum (the bad one), in which I did manage to shutdown the forum and I couldn't get access to the forum (re: my first posting on this topic)...I checked it again after a few hours and it came back up BUT when I log in...it logs me in and then returns me back to the login in page...
This has to do with cookies right? Anyway, I can fix this issue? I am not forwarding anything in the forum. This is peculiar |

Best advice I can give for the future here is to set up a totally seperate copy of your forum including the database and run your mods on that before your live setup. This way you take the panic factor out when something goes wrong. We ran a few mods ourselves and my partner in crime learnt the hard way and managed to corrupt the database at one point, it doesn't just make you feel bad, you lose everything since your last backup too. |
