Folks, Am new to this, using the forum through a thrid party provider. As forum administrator, i've just set up the board, and have apparetnly done somthing strange with categories. I have only one forum so far, in a category I've called 'basic chat' - but when users first arrive at the site, the 'Default Categories' screen is listed, and there's nothing in the 'default categories' - to the user, it looks as though there are no forums on the site. When the drop-down box is selected, and the 'all categories you have access to' option is chosen, then my 'basic chat' catgory becomes visible. How can I either add forums inside the 'default categories', or else make the site open to a different area than the empty ' default categories'? Thanks... |

Thanks - but this doesn't work - I can't see how to add it to the 'Default Categories' group. It just comes up with a window to add a category - which I've done - but that new category still turns up in the 'all categories you have access to' page, not in the default categories. I just can't see a way to make a category appear in the default group. |

when you are at the default categories look to the right side and you should see a purple folder click that folder to create a new category "Basic Chat" then once that category is created look again to the rights side and you should see another purple folder clickn that to create a new forum.
Basically the purple folders to the right of the screen will create your "Categories", "Forums", and "Topics", in that order as you create them.
Hope this helps. |

When you get to Group Categories Configuration, as Rasco explained, choose Default Categories as the group to Edit and click the Edit button. You will get to a page where you can change the group name, group description and at the bottom of the dialog you have two lists of categories: the ones available to add to the group and the ones already in the group. You just need to use these buttons to remove or add categories to the list. Just click the category(ies) and then the desired button. When the list of selected categories has all the cats you want, just press Submit. |
