when viewing a topic the left bar is shown above the text, its only a problem because the left bar is quite long... ive moved it so it starts below the header but that shouldnt affect that should it? how do i get the left bar to go alongside the posts?

Looks like in your topic.asp, you've an extra set of:

</td>
</tr>
</table>

...that are disrupting the page layout.

I would suggest removing lines 440,441 and 442

error page - cant tell you exact cos ive got a personalized error page installed on my site (looks good buts kinda annoying when ur editing files lol)
