Here is a pretty good ASP forum. It isn't cheap but it has all the bells and whistles. http://www.aspplayground.net/

Beaudoin,
I'am just south of you and work for the Canadian army. I to may be using Snitz as a Forum/FAQ. I have not been around these forums for months as I'am sooooo busy, but I use to work heavily with Snitz, adding MOD's, doing my own MOD's and although I'am not yet an ASP guru , I found nothing within the Snitz code that makes it not secure. If anything the guys/gals here who develop Snitz put ALOT of effort into security related issues.
With you being the Web Designer, you must do alot of coding in ASP and there are alot of links on the DWAN sites using ASP linking to databases to retrieve info/files, are the Network admins assured that these pages are coded right? Are you planning on using Snitz on the Internet or Intranet? If for the Intranet, the Network admins, in my opinion if they are doing their jobs right shouldn't have to worry, as Snitz would only be internal to the Network.
I use other programs on the Intranet (I won't mention any names), but some of them feel/look like the coding is very sloppy, but yet they are allowed because they were purchased. |

If you look at the "available here" link at the top you can see the other forum software I evaluated. We're running Windows 2000 Server, so the Linux and UNIX forums weren't an option.
Thank you for this! It helped a lot!
Intrepidone: Any code that you write for DND is considered "in house" programming, and it isn't routinely scrutinised by anyone in particular. If you write code for a product like Army On Line, which is being administered by DLCI, then you'd have to do it in accordance to their standards. I just completed some work for Army On Line (which you will see up in a very short while), and I had to work within very strict guidelines.
If I am successful in getting Snitz back up and running, I will definitely be using it as our internal forums as well. It's a great product. |

Beaudoin,
I have seen the guidelines and understand where your coming from. I have written an ASP interface running on Access for our Asset Management that I use to control our DA. I recently attended a working group in Ottawa to voice my opinion and help come up with ideas of what is needed for the ASP Asset Management software the Army wants to use. They have seen what I have written and like parts of it.
My section wants me to design our website and I'am going to use (or want to use) Snitz as a Forum/Knowledge Base/FAQ for all of us technicians to use. The Forums/Knowledge Base will be divided into Software/Hardware/Baseline problems. We plan on just running Snitz on one of our servers in the office (on the DWAN) and only the technicians would be able to login. I mean you couldn't ask for a better tool for doing this.
If you need help convincing your Chain of Command, count on me to voice my opinion because I want to use it to. |

Intrepidone: Which website do you run? Email me.
For all of those that helped me with this, I want to thank you! I've been successful in convincing the Senior managers that Snitz is the way to go. All I need to do now is make sure it passes a few tests.
