I'm looking for resources on how I can further secure my home network (that contains my Web/Mail server). It's a Windows server (2003 Ent).
I'm also looking for (Free if possible, but robust and high-quality is more important) Server anti-virus and any other security tools.
I've had some friends tell me that IIS is very insecure as well, how can I lock down IIS and prevent attacks?
TIA

just stick your pc behind a router or firwall.
and don't listen to your freinds, IIS is a secure as any other webserver if it is set up correctly. |

I believe it's setup correctly and I'm behind a router, I hope that's enough.
Thanks. |

as long as you only have the minimum of ports open you should be ok, just make sure you have all the latest service packs and security updates installed. |

I am growing very tired of my Senior Network Admin telling my IT Manager that IIS is full of holes. I decided to start slamming him with a bunch of articles of exploits I found for Novell, especially GroupWise. Novell and Unix people love targeting Microsofts IIS. |

The funny thing is many of the complainers are clueless, but somehow their comments are accepted at face value.
If IIS was so bad, would Dell, Washington State, MS and so many other huge websites use IIS?

It's so easy to hate Microsoft. Anyone trying to decrypt their ever changing, extremely strict, financially draining licensing rules and costs would agree... so this is why I think the cheap shots are accepted at face value. |
