After I installed the Active Users Mod, none of the forum members or myself profile pages work, Page Cannot Be Displayed
Any ideas on what this might be or where I might look to solve this problem?
Profiles worked ok before this mod and I have gone back over pop_profile.asp to make sure I didnt have typo's.
Active Users mod works ok as well and I noticed this problem while I was fixing to install the avatar mod.
thanks for any help |

thanks for replying laser, I would have already linked a pop_profile but wasnt sure if thats what anyone would need to see.
1. forum url: http://www.pointblankrecon.com/bbs/default.asp 2. Error Message: no actual error message, just Page Cannot be Displayed 3. Test user acct: user registration not required, or are you asking for admin area access? 4. pop_profile example: http://www.pointblankrecon.com/temp/pop_profile.txt
you will also see part of this file contains the "smilies in topic" mod, which profiles worked after that was installed as well.
the latest mod = active users installed today (11/12/03) and when the problems began.
note: Its evident where I commented as you'll see in pop_profile where I made the modifications
thanks for looking into this....

Hi,
The test account is used to view profiles (guests) cannot do that in the current version, but I see your error :
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03ea'
Syntax error
/bbs/pop_profile.asp, line 445
'###############################################################################
^
So you need to turn off Friendly errors in IE (so you can see this sort of thing)
To fix the error, go to line 444 and remove the four characters within the quotes -> " & _" |

I will take note of the IE error notification
So I just remove the ending (shown below in red) ?
</a> </font></td>" & vbNewLine & _
:edit: I tried removing what I asked above and it didnt help and I dont see on line 444 quotes with & _ ( " & _ " )
my line 444 Response.Write " <td bgcolor=""" & strPopUpTableColor & """ align=""left"" valign=""middle"" width=""95%""><font face=""" & strDefaultFontFace & """ size=""" & strFooterFontSize & """> <a href=""topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=" & rs2("TOPIC_ID") & """>" & formatStr(ChkString(rs2("T_SUBJECT"),"display")) & "</a> </font></td>" & vbNewLine & _ |

ok I did the IE trick you told me and I now see this error:
================================================== Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'
Expected statement
/bbs/pop_profile.asp, line 448
" </tr>" & vbNewLine ^ ====================================================
so I still dont see " & _" but I am guessing that arrow pointing up means the error, but I just dont see the problem |

OK, your problem is that your line 444 has a continue at the end (the underscore character) and before that the & means that you are appending a few text literals together. On its own this is fine, but 445 is a comment, not a continuation of the previous line. This is the simplest fix for you :
- Cut lines 445-447 - Paste them one line down (just before the TopicCount = TopicCount + 1 line

I just deleted the '######### line altogether and it solved my problem. SInce I dont know asp, it doesnt make alot of sense to me but I do get what was wrong in a small way
I guess I will just have to remember that my mod ended where I deleted the '##### comment
thank you again for all your help |

No probs, the basic problem was that your line 444 "expected" more code on 445, when it gets there it only finds a comment, and goes
WHAT the ... .?!?!?!?
