What's RSS all about? I've heard it's useful for syndication but I have no clue how to grab anything in RSS and put it on my site. It looks very difficult whereas the Javascript syndication scripts have always worked nice for me.

BTW, the Snitz Javascript Mod has been wonderful on all my sites but no one ever talks about it. I hope there is still interest in it so that future versions will always have someone developing it.

Please help with explaining how to work with RSS. Thanks!

I know nothing about RSS, but I have installed the rssfeed.asp that Richard wrote & released a few weeks ago. I only use it to track Active Topics so I know what's happening on the site (this one and mine) without having to check the Active Topics page all the time. I used to use the Trillian Pro plugin, but found FeedReader (http://www.feedreader.com/) a lot better.

Slashdot also does a RSS feed, but any other good tips are appreciated.

Lots of sites have RSS but are there that many people truly using it? Also, is it worth developing in it because it looks as if it usurps the advertising. I also added the rssfeed.asp to my site a couple of months ago - I have no idea if anyone is using it, though.

I think this is the one I used - scroll down and you'll find a link to it.

I don't think it's included at snitzbitz, unfortunately. People should know about this mod.

For all of us dumbo's out there, is there an idiots guide to RSS, I've had a look at a few downloads but they usually require you to load extra software to set them up, feedreader is one example. The snitz version is just a page full of code, how do you actually get the feeds to display on your own site

I use RSS personally, and more and more others are, too. It doesn't entirely usurp advertising either. Because it only provides the headline and a possibly a brief description, the user must click through to see the entire content.

I actually generate two RSS feeds on my site; one for recent forum topics and another for the latest IM news articles.

If you don't want to load a newsreader or if you just want to see what RSS is all about, the Daily Rotation has over 200 RSS feeds and you can customize your own "news page" drawing from those sources. Pretty slick stuff.
